Painting Drum

A concept of this work is coming from ”meme”.

The meme is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture".

A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures.

The word meme originated with Richard Dawkins' "memes should be considered as living structures, not just metaphorically" and proposed to regard memes as "physically residing in the brain".

Because I learned biology and genetics through a work, I think about biological heredity and heredity of the culture.

Painting drum is equipment created by me for using art workshop.

It is made by a cylinder type pipe which is the approx. one meter length and 15-60cm diameter size and putting paper or cloth on the surface. The color put on sheet with paint or crayons while turning the pipe.

The color lines are increased in turning and turning them. Everyone can make lines easy on the sheet.

The multi colored sheet is appeared after the workshop.

I suggest what someone raises an idea to make this sheet which this somebody made what somebody other is. In other words, succeeding to the thing which another person made in other things as materials is a work concept. For example those sheets are used by sawing the cloth, wrapping the building etc.,

I will install those sheets and turning the drum at the exhibition.

The process of creating will be continued which is succession of the culture.

We will obtain opportunity for thinking about culture continuous.
